French fuel firms seek emergency supplies amid strikes
I wonder what this will do to Euro values against dollar and pound? (Not to mention oil prices)?
What's best to trade - forex or shares?
Thinking specifically of "spread betting" as a trading method how would you advise a new trader?
He (or she) says to you "I want to trade and make money but which should I choose?"
And you say...?
Is it shares where expert or domain knowledge of industry and market place trends can be a huge help?
Is it the global market place - the biggest stock exchange ever and one that never sleeps?
Forex or shares?
Which would you recommend and why?
Poor Old Euro?
The Euro has been taking quite a pounding of late. Fortunately one can make money in a bear (sinking) market as well as a bull (going up) market. With Forex a down trend for one currency is an up trend for another.
Fibonacci and the fall of the Dollar
The dollar has not done so well of late dipping down near a three-month low against what Reuters calls a basket of currencies
yesterday on the perception that the U.S. growth outlook is deteriorating, forcing the Federal Reserve to keep interest rates low.
Euro firm after breaking above Fibonacci retracement
screams one bullet point. Now I must admit that I do not know what Fibonacci sequences have to do with the markets (yet) but I am familure with Fibonacci numbers all the same. However my understanding of Fibonacci number sequences is GCSE level at best.
The numbers have important implications for computing (my field of experience).
That said I have been able to find out that stock (and one assumes currency) has a tendency to spend a short period of time going in the "other" direction before resuming it's rise (or fall). This is called a retrace and commonly has some sort of Fibonacci pattern to it. In other words these retraces are dead common and follow a mathematical pattern on average.
If you wish to tell me more please feel free.
Betting on markets is like betting on anything.
I've developed quite the soft spot for social betting website BetAble.com as you might have noticed so I am going to use betable to illustrate a point that I have come to understand about trading (forex or shares).
Take this bet I set up yesterday. In it you can choose to bet on what the first character of the headline in Friday's metro newspaper will be.
This is a good example of how trades work too.
Spread Trading Service Comparison
While I was taking care of my day's development tasks today I happened to over hear a recommendation from one of Knowledge to Action's traders. This is for a website that among other things has a A Spread Trading Service Comparison chart. That is a chart of Financial Spread Betting Companies and what they offer. The site is called cleanfinancial.com and this is a tip I am passing on.
Make forex blogging fun again
I have no idea how I can do this but I feel I must.
Forex blog posts tend to be heavy on the numbers and light on the fun. Add in graphs that many people find incomprehensible (unless they are outsiders) and you get a very inward facing (and dull) niche. Dull is bad - it is the opposite of remarkable and remarkable is what makes an idea spread.
So this is my "side quest" as I blog - to make forex (and trade) blogging interesting.
Forex and Stock Market Trading Glossary
One of the company blogs I was recently asked to do some technical work to had this little gem on it. It's a jargon buster of trade and forex jargon and what it actually means. You might remember that in What or who is a pip I spoke about the industry jargon and how off putting it can be. This post (I think) can help to break in by understanding what is being said.
What or who is a pip?
What is a pip and why exactly does it matter?
This is a post adapted from a quick post I write on my personal blog on the subject of Trade and Pips.
The whole reason for starting this blog was that I have decided that I want to become nicely Rich from trading stocks, shares and currency. As a result I have been investing a few hours of my time into my education on this topic (I've been to a seminar about it).
It will be no surprise to anyone that there was plenty of jargon associated with trading currency (forex). Some of this is because traders need a way to talk about what they are doing but I would not mind betting some of this jargon is used to make those on the inside sound like they know what they are talking about.
